Celebrating Life and Health – Newcastle Portrait Photographer

Any family portrait session is a special time of celebrating togetherness and love. Sometimes, though it’s a little more special…

This wonderful family lived the nightmare we all dread when one of their own suffered horrific injuries in a motorbike accident. Lots of love and support, coupled with hard work and sheer determination (and a great medical team) saw them all home together in time for Christmas.

All being together again, healthy and happy, certainly warranted a photo shoot – including the dogs, who are definitely part of the family.

A Very Special Grandfather – Newcastle Portrait Photographer

What a great honour it was to photograph the patriarch of the Hanna family. The main constant throughout their young lives, he means the world to his three granddaughters and their deep love and respect for him is palpable.

It was a blindingly bright and very hot morning but it’s not every day you can have four generations of one family all together in one place.

As our family members age it becomes even more important to capture lasting memories of our time with them… especially when they start to forget.

Cousins all grown up – Newcastle Portrait Photographer

It was so lovely to catch up with my younger cousins, who I haven’t seen much of since they were toddlers. That’s what happens when you live at opposite ends of the country.

Now they are all adults with partners, it was time for some grown-up photos 😉 In the midst of a 21st, they were quick shots and the two sisters missed out but getting the three handsome brothers was special.

Teen Siblings – Newcastle Portrait Photographer

What a day we had! The weather had us guessing all day and turned on all its negativity for us. Wind, rain, heavy black clouds… I felt as though I spent half my day looking up at the sky.

But as luck would have it, both the wind and the rain stopped just as our shoot was scheduled to start. The sky was still dark and dull, but the sun finally poked its lovely face through for about ten minutes… before the rain started again.

We may have only had 30 minutes, but that is all you need when your models are as accommodating and obliging as these two lovely teenagers. The brief from their mum was for portraits that leaned more towards formal than fun and also for photographs that would look great in black and white.

With their laughter bubbling beneath the surface, I think we nailed it.

Rehearsal time!

Over the past week I have had the pleasure of returning to my long-lost theatre roots and have been photographing rehearsals for Theatre on Brunker’s production of “Footrot Flats – The Musical”.

The talented cast is enthusiastic and the show is a lot of fun, with some great songs.

Young Love Beautiful in Blue – Newcastle Portrait Photographer

On the weekend I had the immense pleasure of spending a couple of hours with this delightful young couple.

After having to abort our original location plans, we found a few new beautiful spots, even sharing one of them with a wedding party.

Thanks for being so easy-going, relaxed and fun, guys!

Pet Portraits – Newcastle Pet Photographer

When you’re thinking about family portraits, don’t forget your pets.

After all, they are part of the family, too.

These days our pets are more pampered and adored than ever before – I know mine certainly are!

Despite – or perhaps because of – growing up with the camera, one of my cats hates the camera, seems to have a sixth sense for it and will always turn his head at the last minute. It makes the photos I manage to grab even more special. His brother, on the other hand, is quite happy to pose 🙂

So next time you’re watching your dog frolicking in the park or adoring your kitten stretching in her sleep, consider having those special moments captured.

Stretch it! Newcastle Environmental Portraits

It’s not all about the family portraits… it’s also really interesting – and fun – to capture people in their working environment.

Tara from www.allbetterbodies.com was a stall holder at the Mind, Body, Spirit Expo in Toronto NSW this weekend and was presenting “stretch program demonstrations” on the main stage.

I was privileged to be asked to capture her sharing what she loves with the (very receptive) audience. She performed some beautifully relaxing routines, as well as more energising stretch programs.

It is inspiring to watch a professional passionate about their vocation and sharing it with others.

Check out her website and give her a call. She can develop a tailored program, just for you!

Beach fun with Miss B – Newcastle Portrait Photographer

I recently spent a lovely afternoon on the beach with the vivacious Miss B, a beautiful young lady who is willing to give anything a go, from climbing up steep sand dunes to being nearly knocked over by rogue waves. A lot of laughs were shared!
